Aaaah, chocolate

Chilli chocolate was surprisingly good!

No coincidence that an unusually high number of members and visitors were here this month to hear Phil Bischler talk about chocolate (with tasting)!

Phil began his talk by explaining his interest in and love of chocolate and bringing out the first little box to pass around, he really did have our full and undivided attention.  We started with the chilli chocolate and tried our best to take Phil’s suggestion of allowing it to melt in our mouths to get the full effect as he explained the differences and characteristics of each sample.

There followed a succession of chocolate from all over the world, offered in increasing percentage of cocoa solids.  By the time we were tasting our ninth or tenth chocolate, a dark and very rich variety from Germany (via Aldi!), some were beginning to flag and admit defeat!  Nevertheless, the last of all, a Lemon Meringue bar from Cornwall finished the tasting on a sweeter note and all agreed that this had been one of the most enjoyable meetings so far.  Phil’s knowledge and enthusiasm for chocolate was remarkable and his generosity in sharing some of his hard to obtain favourites was greatly appreciated!

Another great meeting!
